VPK

Teacher to Child Ratio:
(4 years old and after VPK hours) = 1:20
(5 years old +) = 1:25
We follow the Florida State Guidelines for teacher to child ratio which is 1 teacher to 20 children (ages 4 and 5 years old).
SCHOOL READINESS
At Learning Ladder Christian Preschool, we are committed to helping children build a strong foundation for their transition into Kindergarten. Our goal is to provide a supportive and engaging environment where children develop essential academic and social skills. Families appreciate the well-rounded education and nurturing atmosphere we provide.
CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE
Our VPK classrooms offer a structured yet fun learning environment where children are encouraged to explore and grow. Designed for children who turn 4 years old by September 1st, our program includes both a state-funded VPK option and a private-pay alternative. The FREE VPK program runs from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Many parents find that their children leave the program feeling confident and prepared for Kindergarten.
MORNING ARRIVAL & TRANSITIONS
To help children ease into their day, we recommend arriving by 8:30 AM so they can enjoy outdoor play before VPK begins at 9:00 AM. This helps them transition smoothly into classroom activities. During drop-off, parents and teachers communicate any important updates, ensuring that each child gets the best start to their day. Our teachers help students feel comfortable and engaged as they begin their morning.
MEALS & SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Children enjoy snack and lunch together, which provides opportunities for social interaction and learning table manners. Teachers sit with students to encourage conversation, independence, and proper mealtime etiquette. (Please note that lunch is scheduled after VPK hours.)
REST & QUIET TIME
Four-year-olds in our program have a daily rest period of about 90 minutes. As the school year progresses, rest time is gradually reduced to help prepare children for Kindergarten. Over the summer, nap time is phased out completely. Each child has a cot and sheet, and parents may send a small pillow, blanket, or comfort item. Our teachers help create a calm environment where children can relax and recharge.
BATHROOM INDEPENDENCE
Our preschool has child-friendly sinks and toilets to promote independence in the restroom. Occasional accidents are expected at this age, and our staff provides gentle support to help children feel comfortable. Parents should provide multiple changes of clothes, including socks and shoes, to ensure their child stays clean and comfortable throughout the day.
CURRICULUM & LEARNING APPROACH
Our VPK program incorporates various teaching methods to encourage early literacy, math, problem-solving, and social skills. Using Creative Curriculum, Souns Curriculum, Second Step Curriculum, and hands-on activities, children learn through play, art, science exploration, literacy centers, and outdoor experiences. Students work on individual learning portfolios throughout the year, and weekly homework packets allow families to stay involved in their child’s educational journey.
DISMISSAL & PARENT COMMUNICATION
Children attending VPK-only hours must be picked up promptly at 12:00 PM. During pick-up, teachers share updates about each child’s day, progress, and activities, ensuring parents stay informed and involved in their child’s learning experience.
